Chintzware Displayed

Featured Articles, History

Chintzware, or chintz pottery, describes chinaware and pottery covered with a dense, all-over pattern of flowers or, less often, other objects. It is a form of transferware where the pattern is applied by transfer printing as opposed to the more traditional method of painting by hand. The color and patterns are fabulous and add character to interior decor. Since these patterns are transferred rather than hand painted they were more affordable than other fine china. As you can see, the colors and patterns are vibrant and add a lot of interest to a display.
